1. Configuring your IP Address

This section of the help page will instruct you how to configure your Cisco ATA via DHCP or with a Static IP address.

DHCP Configuration

If your network utilizes a DHCP Server to assign IP Addresses to network devices, or if you are connecting the ATA to a home router such as a Linksys or Netgear router, please do the following:

1.      Plug your ATA into your Network and connect the power cord.

2.      Connect an analog telephone into the “phone 1” port on the back of the ATA

3.      Pick up the telephone and press the button on top of the ATA. You will hear a voice prompt that says “Configuration Menu.”

4.      Press the keys 2, 0, # on your analog phone. Then press 1, # to enable DHCP. Then press 3 to save your configuration settings. Wait until the red light on the ATA stops flashing and hang up the phone. (If after two minutes, the ATA continues to have a steady flashing red light, then you are not behind a DHCP server and will need to configure a Static IP. Please see below for instructions on how to configure a Static IP.)

5.      Pick up the phone and press the button on top of the ATA. You will hear a voice prompt that says “Configuration Menu.”

6.      Press the keys 8, 0, # on your analog phone. The system will now read back the IP address of your ATA. Please write it down. If the IP address you hear is 0.0.0.0 then either your network does not have a DHCP server (in which case you should proceed to the Static IP Configuration below) or your DHCP Server is not assigning an IP address to the ATA (in which case you should contact your network administrator for assistance).

7.      Hang up the telephone and proceed to section 2 to upgrade your ATA firmware.

Static IP Configuration

1.      Please acquire the following information from your Internet Service Provider or IT Administrator: “IP Address,” “Default Gateway,” and “Subnet Mask,” and “DNS Server IP.”

2.      Plug your ATA into your Network and connect the power cord.

3.      Connect an analog telephone into the “phone 1” port on the back of the ATA

4.      Pick up the telephone and press the button on top of the ATA. You will hear a voice prompt that says “Configuration Menu.”

5.      Press 2, 0, # on your analog phone to access the DHCP Menu.

6.      Press 0, # to disable DHCP on your ATA.

7.      Press 3 to save the setting.

8.      Press 1, # to access the IP Address Menu.

9.      Enter your IP Address using the * key in place of the “.” (i.e. 123*45*67*89 to represent the IP Address 123.45.67.89) and press the # key.

10.  Press 3 to save the setting.

11.  Press 2, # to access the Default Gateway Menu.

12.  Enter your Default Gateway using the * key in place of the “.” (i.e. 123*45*67*89 to represent the Gateway 123.45.67.89) and press the # key.

13.  Press 3 to save the setting.

14.  Press 1, 0, # to access the Subnet Mask Menu.

15.  Enter your Subnet Mask using the * key in place of the “.” (i.e. 123*45*67*89 to represent the Subnet Mask 123.45.67.89) and press the # key.

16.  Press 3 to save the setting.

17.  Press 9, 1, 6, # to access the DNS Server IP Menu.

18.  Enter your DNS Server IP using the * key in place of the “.” (i.e. 123*45*67*89 to represent the DNS IP 123.45.67.89) and press the # key.

19.  Press 3 to save the setting.

2. Version Upgrade

In order to utilize our service with an ATA, you must be running version 2.16 (build 030401) or higher of the software. For your convenience, we have made available the most recent firmware and build on our servers. Please follow the instructions below to upgrade your firmware.

1.      Pick up the phone and press the button on the ATA. You will hear the prompt “configuration Menu.”

2.      Press 1,0,0,# to access the upgrade menu.

3.      Enter the following IP address and port information into the phone exactly as listed: 213*137*73*159*8000#

4.      After a short time (up to 2 minutes), you will hear the words “Upgrade Successful.”

5.      Proceed to Section 3 if you are configuring the ATA to place outbound calls only, or proceed to Section 4 if you are configuring the ATA to receive and place calls.

If you hear the words “Upgrade Failed,” there is a problem with the network configuration of the ATA, meaning you have either not acquired an IP address or you are behind a firewall or proxy preventing access to our server. Please contact your network administrator for more assistance, or refer to your user’s manual for your home firewall or router.

3. Outbound Account Configuration

This section will instruct you how to configure to use your ATA for Outbound Calling ONLY (If your account is configured for receiving Inbound Calls, please go directly to Section 4). Your ATA will be configured differently if you are behind a NAT, so please confirm this with the User Documentation from your home router. If you are in an office environment, please speak to your IT Administrator before continuing with the configuration.
