The traditional way
of calling is through your local Telephone Network
that connects you via Circuit Switching, you
are calling the other party and you make a circuit
, this system works 100 years, this is the method
of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
The problem with circuit-switched technology
is a significant amount of bandwidth dedicated
to each call . The hardware that is needed to
operate circuit-switched networks are very expensive,
due to the fact that voice and data services
must be carried on different cables and separate
hardware is needed to handle the traffic.
ADVANTAGES
OF VOIP
There are many advantages to using VoIP. For
one, voice and data can be transmitted over
the same lines. By using compressed technology,
more calls can be transmitted on the lines .
In fact, one could easily put 8 times the number
of calls on the same line without sacrificing
quality of sound. This means lower operating
costs due to reduction of hardware . Lower cost
structures means lower rates than the regular
phone companies. In addition, the flexibility
of VoIP enables different devices to talk to
one another, allowing us to offer you enhanced
services such as PC-to-Phone phone to phone
via accessories like the
Linksys PAP2 and Cisco ATA 186 .
Unlike
traditional switching-channels telephony
where direct connection between subscribers
is a must, the VOIP technology allows establishing
several conversations simultaneously within
one communication channel. For that reason
the VoIP technology is being called packet-switching
telephony.
Session
Initiation Protocol (SIP) and H.323 protocol
both are voip protocols. Both work well and
each has its own advantages, SIP is designed
for voice transmissions and is suited for VoIP
use, H.323 protocol is used for data and video
conferencing transmissions.
Businesses and individuals with overseas
contacts will benefit from PC
